Fences For FreedomAdded: 2009-07-15
This is a follow up of the short story on Fences For Freedom. The following is very disturbing numbers of animals and live stock, that have been killed in a two year period because of predators crossing the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park fence into commercial farmland.. These numbers have been kept by the farmers on the Namibian side of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park. Their losses due to predators crossing the fence are huge and in terms of monetary value irreplaceable. A total lack of co-operation from SANP management and a total deterioration of the fence, that is over 40 years old is the main reason for the state of events. Kanabo is launching an in iniciative to generate funds, in conjuction with the Namibian farmers,to try and rectify this deplorable situation. A section of the international border between South Africa and Namibia is also the fence of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park as a national park belonging to South Africa. The condition of this fence is absolutely precarious and in a state of neglect due to a number of reasons. Kanabo Safris has for the last 9 years asked numerous questions regarding the the state of the fence and the patrol and upkeep thereof. Respons form officials in charge was lame and not of much value. Fences for Freedom is a project to create awareness in the public to this problem that is a cause of numerous wildlife like leopard, lions, hyaena's and other predators being killed. These figures are very alarming. If you are interested in getting involved in this project please contact us as all help will be apprececiated. |
